1935-38 Dobro Lap Steel
The Story of the Dopyera Brothers is legend among those geeks and freaks that love this stuff. In short the "Dobro" resonator was a commercial response to the original creator of the resonator guitar by "National" owned by Dopyera's former business partner, George Beauchamp. Dopyera had been a partner in the National Company, however when he realised that Beauchamp (a legendary raconteur) had laid claim to the patent, they parted ways. What's the difference? Both use a spun aluminium cone perfected by Dopyera, however The National is upward facing and the other is inverted using an alloy "spider" but that is another post. This Square neck Dobro Lap Steel is a gem. Built in the mid to late 30's, Dobro farmed out some of it's work the Regal Musical Instrument Company. This is one of those instruments. It's brassy and brash with volume and sustain that belles it's humble appearance. Lap steel is a dying art so if you want to keep the circle unbroken, buy this guitar. It will give back a lot more than the asking price.
